This original mixed media sketch was inspired by the small, characterful windmills that feel so typically Dutch. I was especially drawn to the shape and colour of this little mill, and loved painting its bright red body against a bold turquoise sky.
The windmill stands by the water, surrounded by soft greens, warm yellow grasses and loose expressive marks. The strong colour contrast gives the piece a fresh, cheerful energy, while the details in coloured pencil add texture and a playful sketch-like feel.
